Imagine – brilliantly illustrated

Yes, The Beatles are arguably the best , if not the best (boy?*) band in the world’s current existence, but I’ve usually skimmed John Lennon’s iconic song, “Imagine”, because i was so easily distracted by the ‘ho-hum’ feel of the song, too stupid to actually pay close attention to the lyrics. Of course, a picture paints a thousand words, and paints them quite well. So there.

It’s also on the link, but i find it VERY IMPORTANT to re-stress his disclaimer footnote here:

Disclaimer:

  • This is NOT an anti-religion/atheist-propaganda comic. The comic and the song (at least as I understand it) tries to communicate that no matter your faith, we should all share the world in peace… As silly as that sounds.
  • Yes, MLK, Gandhi and Marley were spiritual people. Read point one :)
  • This is NOT an antisemitic comic. The Israeli soldier is breaking the cycle of war to play some football. Come on!
  • That is Anna Politkovskaya, an awesome Russian journalist, writer and activist.
  • Yes, John Lennon probably was a douche wife-beater, but still, “Imagine” transcends the unpleasant facts about its composer.

Many may agree, even more may disagree, but on a general level, the ambition, no matter how naive and idealistic,  is indeed quite imagine-able.

* This is asterisked because they play their own instruments, defying the conventional boyband logic, they don’t dance, so there’s one, but quite a bit of their songs play into the pop/boyband genre, and not to mention how the ladies of their time would faint bedazzled by their looks. So sue me.
